From first contact to finalization

    Contact Matching Hearts and Attend an Orientation

    Attend an orientation to learn about the adoption process, agency requirements and expectations, and the next steps based on your family’s individual circumstances.

    Approval Requirements

    Complete the requirements to become an approved adoptive family. This includes providing necessary documentation, completing background checks, participating in required training, and completing a home study.

    Matching

    Possible matches are considered based on the child's needs and the prospective family's readiness and strengths. Learn how adoption matching works. Read our preparation questions for older-child adoption and adopting siblings, then ask which situations the agency currently handles.

    Placement

    After placement, your family completes the visits, reports, and other steps required for your case before finalization. Timing depends on the adoption path and legal requirements; ask Matching Hearts and your legal professional what applies.

    Finalization

    Finalization is the legal step that makes the adoption permanent. Finalization marks the beginning of a lifelong commitment.
